Football - 14th December 2016

BJSSA Football Cup

First Round Matches - Wednesday, 14th December 2016

On Wednesday the 14th of December we arrived at Bury Grammar’s brand new 3G football pitches for our first football league competition. We had a short warm up, it wasn’t long before our first game.

Match 1: Chesham
This was our first match against Chesham. Tom opened the scoring with a brilliant goal. Five minutes later, Mason quickly scored twice. Chesham tried really hard to get a goal back however we went on to win 3-0. We couldn’t wait for our second match!

Match 2: Our Lady Of Lourdes
Our second match was against Our Lady of Lourdes. Greenmount’s first goal was scored by Will, it was a great through ball played by Tom, Will ran onto it and slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Our next goal was scored by Nathan who headed the ball past the keeper. The opposition soon got one back with a shot right in the top corner, Joe never had a chance. Although they kept pressing for another goal, we managed to score again towards the end of the match - Will with a cheeky chip making it 3-1. What a game !

Match 3: Chantlers
We knew we had to win to have a chance of going through to the next round. We were seven minutes in and we won a free kick on the edge of the box. Archie stood next the ball, looked towards the goal and smashed it into the top corner. 1-0 to Greenmount. Fourteen minutes in, Joe hit a wonderful goal kick down the pitch, the ball bounced over the defenders' heads and Archie was there to get his second goal of the game. 2-0. The final whistle went, another victory for Greenmount !

Match 4: St Lukes
In our last game we needed at least a draw to definitely go through to the next round of the tournament. The opposition were playing in purple and white. Five minutes in, Teddy scored just from outside the box, this calmed our nerves. We were playing well, then once again, Teddy scored making it 2-0. Eventually the referee blew the whistle for full time. We had won and were going through to the next round of the competition.
