The first race was at Broad Oak High School. The children were all nervous as it was the first race of the year and some children first time racing for the school. Despite the weather being awful the children were excited to represent the school. By the time the children had finished they were covered in mud. The atmosphere was amazing and the crowd’s cheering really helped spur us on.
The second cross country race was at St Gabriel’s and it was raining again! Because the children had one race under their belt they weren’t quite as nervous as they knew what to expect. The children loved this challenging course because of the difficult hill in the course. It was an eventful day as some children from Greenmount lost their shoes in the mud.
The week after the children were racing again, this time at Derby High School. This course had no hills and was totally flat. The results were fantastic with nearly all children beating their personal best and placing higher than they had at the previous races. After the race, the girls found out they were in joint second place with Bury Grammar going into the last event.
Bury Athletics Track
The final race was at Bury AC on the black track. It wasn’t different to the previous races as this was a relay. There were two girls teams and two boys teams entered from Greenmount. It was an incredibly exciting race which went down to the last leg with the boys finishing 5th overall and the girls coming 4th. The children really enjoy competing at a team and they can’t wait to run all over again next year.
