Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that you have all had a good summer and you (and your children) are looking forward to the new school year starting on Monday, 6th September.
I just wanted to share some information with you before school restarts.
Welcome Videos and Classroom Tours
The staff have been working hard to get their classrooms ready for the new year. They have prepared a short video showcasing the classroom that you can look at with your children before Monday. The videos can be found on our website (in the “Children section” under “School Videos”) by clicking this link:
These should all be live by 6.00 p.m. on Friday, 3rd September.
School Day Times
Please remember that we are no longer operating the staggered start / end to the school day and are reverting to our “usual” times.
In the morning, the classroom doors will be opened at 8.50 a.m. (or 8.45 a.m. in the case of inclement weather). The school day starts officially at 9.00 a.m.
The end of the school day is 3.30 p.m.
Moving around the school site
We have removed the one-way system around the site. Moving around the site at drop-off / pick-up times may feel crowded in comparison with last year, so we would encourage the wearing of face coverings in crowded areas. Staff will be wearing face coverings when they meet and greet at classroom doors.
Please do use the variety of paths around school (including the one across the field and the one across the area outside GOOSE) if this feels more comfortable.
We are no longer using the car park gates as a pedestrian entry/exit route. Unfortunately, our gates were damaged in a road traffic collision last week and the gates cannot currently be closed. However, please do refrain from nipping through the car park as there may well be vehicles moving around.
Please could we also remind you that the car park is exclusively for the use of staff. Parents/carers should not need to drive up Holhouse Lane at all. When dropping off / picking up, cars should be parked on Holcombe Road or neighbouring roads. Please park respectfully of our neighbours (not blocking driveways please !).
Please can we remind those of you who use GOOS before or after school that the car park is not to be used for GOOSE.
On the theme of GOOSE, all children will be based in the GOOSE cabin. We won’t be operating in smaller groups this year. If you've not booked your places, please contact Katrina on GOOSE.firstname.lastname@example.org
We would encourage you to use lateral flow tests with your children before returning to school if you are comfortable with this.
Please note that the regulations around isolation have changed and it is unlikely that we will be sending large groups of children home to isolate if there are positive cases of Covid.
We still need to be very cautious about Covid symptoms and ensure that as soon as you think that your child might be displaying one of the Covid symptoms you book a PCR test for your child. Your child should stay off school until you have received the result of that test.
If the result is negative, they may come back to school.
If the result is positive, they must self-isolate for 10 days from the onset of symptoms (or from the test date if no symptoms) before they return to school. They should return only if they have been symptom-free for 48 hours.
If a member of your household has Covid symptoms they should book a PCR test. Your children can come to school whilst you are waiting for the result of that test.
If a member of your household tests positive for Covid-19, you should arrange a PCR test for your children. They can come to school whilst they are waiting for the result (if they are symptom-free). However, you may choose to keep them at home whilst you are waiting. We would actively encourage this.
There is a graphic at the bottom of this page which we hope may be a useful aide-memoire.
Contacting Class Teachers
If you are not able to speak to your child’s teacher when you drop-off or pick-up you can:
Please note that staff will only respond during the working day.
“Meet the Teacher”
For children in Years 1 to 6, there will be the opportunity to attend a short online introductory meeting with your child’s class teacher when they will introduce themselves to you and share with you the routines and plans for the year.
These will take place on Zoom at 4.15 p.m. on the following dates:
Monday, 13th September Year 3 and Year 4
Tuesday, 14th September Year 5 and Year 6
Wednesday, 15th September Mrs Balmer’s Class and Mrs Carr’s Year 1s
Thursday, 16th September Mrs Parkinson’s Class
We will provide more information on Monday and send you the Zoom links nearer the time.
Please watch out for the school’s weekly newsletter “The Greenmount Guardian”; the first edition will be published on Monday. If you haven’t in the past, but would like to receive it via email please send a blank email with the subject “Newsletter” to email@example.com
We look forward to welcoming you all to school on Monday !
Have a lovely weekend,
