We continued our “Inspirational People” theme with the juniors on Monday focusing on the life of Malala Yousafzai, a young girl born in Pakistan who has become famous for standing up for the right of an education.
When she grew up in Pakistan, the Taliban took control of the area where Malala lived. They dictated that girls over the age of 8 couldn’t go to school. When we told our girls the same was happening to them we were met with a variety of responses … a couple of cheers, many shocked faces and one girl who vowed she would stand up for her rights and defy the ban !
We heard about a terrifying incident in Malala’s life when she was shot for her beliefs. She came over to England for surgery.
We talked about the need to speak out when we know that something is wrong !
