Welcome back Year 1!
How are you all? We hope you had a lovely couple of weeks off and got up to lots of exciting things. I imagine you have certainly eaten lots of chocolate over Easter!
We have been enjoying the sunshine and trying to spend as much time as we can in our gardens and out on walks. Hopefully you have been able to get outside and enjoy the warm, sunny weather too 😊
We have seen a lovely art activity that you could do at some point this week if you have time. Go outside, lay a piece of paper on the floor and put a small toy animal beside the paper so that it creates a shadow. Then draw around the shadow. Enjoy!
Here are your activities for today …
Go onto the Phonics Play website. Click on phase 5 on the menu that appears at the left hand side of the screen. Practice phonemes and tricky words using ‘phonics flashcards speed trial’ and ‘tricky word trucks’.
Then, log on to classroom secrets for kids (you should all have been emailed log in details). Click on Year 1 – Phonics – Phase 5 – Phase 5 Phonics Year 1 Match the Tricky Words. Have a go at this game. There are lots of other games on the website that you are welcome to have a go at.
Your phoneme to focus on today is ur. Practice writing ur. Can you think of any words that contain ur? Here is a video to introduce the phoneme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uVVJXbc870
Practise reading and writing the following words that contain the ur phoneme: hurt, burn, turn, church, Thursday, surprise. I have attached some flashcards containing ur words for your to practise reading.
Now can you think of a sentence that contains at least 2 of these ur words?
Remember to keep up with your reading. If you don’t have many books at home to read you could always look at the websites suggested previously.
One of the things we miss most about not being in school is not being able to listen to all of your exciting stories about what you have been up to.
So, your English task for today is to write a recount about what you have been doing over the Easter holidays. I know we’re not allowed to do a lot of the exciting things we usually would do but I am sure you have been up to lots of fun things in and around your home. I have attached a sheet for you to fill in that has boxes for a picture and room for some writing.
As always, remember to try your hardest to include the following things …
Warm up –
Practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Recall number doubles.
Log in to classroom secrets for kids - Click on Year 1 – Maths – Add to 20 Matching Game. There are lots of other games on here that you might want to play to warm your brains up.
Main Activity –
I have attached a sheet full of subtraction sums. I would like you to calculate the answers to these sums practically. For example, 8-3, Find 8 objects, remove 3 objects, count how many you have left.
