Welcome back Year 2!
How are you all? We hope you had a lovely couple of weeks off and got up to lots of exciting things. I imagine you have certainly eaten lots of chocolate over Easter!
We have been enjoying the sunshine and trying to spend as much time as we can in our gardens and out on walks. Hopefully you have been able to get outside and enjoy the warm, sunny weather too 😊
We have seen a lovely art activity that you could do at some point this week if you have time. Go outside, lay a piece of paper on the floor and put a small toy animal beside the paper so that it creates a shadow. Then draw around the shadow. Enjoy!
Here are your activities for today …
Go onto the Phonics Play website. Click on phase 5 on the menu that appears at the left hand side of the screen. Practice phonemes and tricky words using ‘phonics flashcards speed trial’ and ‘tricky word trucks’.
Then, log in to classroom secrets for kids (you should all have been emailed log in details). Click on Year 2 – Spelling – Common Exception Words Set 1 Year 2. Have a go at this game. There are lots of other games on the website that you are welcome to have a go at.
Please see the 5 common exception words below for you to practice reading, writing and putting into a sentence.
Your words for today are: wild, fast, could, Christmas, climb.
Remember to keep up with your reading. If you don’t have many books at home to read you could always look at the websites suggested previously.
One of the things we miss most about not being in school is not being able to listen to all of your exciting stories about what you have been up to.
So, your English task for today is to write a recount about what you have been doing over the Easter holidays. I know we’re not allowed to do a lot of the exciting things we usually would do but I am sure you have been up to lots of fun things in and around your home. I have attached a sheet for you to fill in that has boxes for a picture and some writing.
As always, remember to include the following things …
Warm up –
Recall number bonds to 20 and number doubles.
Log in to Classroom Secrets for Kids – Click on Year 2 – Maths – 10 Times Tables Memory Card Game. There are plenty of other games on here that you may want to use to warm up your brains.
Main Activity –
Some subtractions can be done mentally, whilst others are more tricky and require us to use a method. Today you will be subtracting 2 2-digit numbers using the number line method. This enables you to count forwards rather than backwards. Please see the separate document explaining how to follow the number line method.
Today we will only be giving you a few questions so that your focus can be on mastering the method. Look through my explanation, then cover it up and have a go at the same question. Then, check your answer afterwards.
