Good Morning Year 2,
We hope you have had a lovely weekend!
We have set up ‘portfolios’ on Dojo where you can upload pictures of what you have been doing at home. We thought this would be a nice way for us all to keep in touch with each other. You will have received a message through your Dojo account, follow the link and you should be connected. We look forward to seeing what you have been doing!
Here are your activities for today …
Now you have looked at the different rules for adding -ed and putting verbs in the past tense, let’s put your understanding to the test. The attached worksheet contains a list of verbs that you must write in the past tense using the rules we have been looking at.
If we had been in school this week we would have been having a themed week based around the 75th Anniversary of VE day. In KS1 we were going to focus specifically on evacuation so this is what your English activities will be based on for this week.
First of all have a little research or chat with an adult about what VE day actually is (We have attached an information sheet that you might want to read through with your child). Your English activity for today is a research activity. Please see the attached worksheet containing questions to answer about evacuation. Once you have found some answers, present them on a poster. Remember to put a picture of your poster on your Dojo portfolio – We would love to see your work!
Warm up –
Times tables quick recall.
Main Activity –
Today you will be focusing on counting pounds and pence. Generally we are very good at counting pence alone however when we add pounds into the mix we often get confused. In school we encourage the children to initially use the following phrase when describing how much money they have. If they had £1.50 they should say ‘I have 1 pound and 50 pence’ rather than ‘I have 1 pound 50’. This helps them to understand that their total is made up of a certain amount of pounds and a certain amount of pence. We hope that makes sense!
We have attached a worksheet on adding pounds and pence however with this topic we always feel that the children gain more from doing these activities practically. So please feel free to ignore the worksheet and give your child selections of real coins to add together instead.
Here is a game to play online after your activity: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game
VE Day Activity
As it is supposed to be our VE day theme week we will be providing an extra daily activity for you to have a go at. Please don’t feel it needs to be completed, it is just provided as an optional extra 😊
Today we have attached a document containing wartime recipes. We are aware that quite a lot of you have been baking and cooking at home so here is an idea to try something a little different. Let us know how you get on!
