Greenmount -

a Pathway to Success

Thursday, 26th March

Good Morning Year 1,

Hope the activities went well yesterday!

The weather has been beautiful over the last couple of days – I hope you are all managing to get out in your gardens to enjoy the sunshine.

Here are your activities for today…

Phonics

Go onto the Phonics Play website. You can access this on a tablet using the address  new.phonicsplay.co.uk         username: march20   password: home

Click on phase 5 on the menu that appears at the left hand side of the screen. Practice phonemes and tricky words using ‘phonics flashcards speed trial’ and ‘tricky word trucks’. Then, play the ‘Dragon’s Den’ game. Your phoneme to focus on today is gn. Practise writing gn. Can you think of any words that contain gn?

Practise reading and writing the following words that contain the gn phoneme.

Gnaw, gnome, design, sign, align – Remember to discuss the meaning of these words with your children!

Now can you think of a sentence that contains at lease 2 of these gn words?

English

Today you will be focusing on comprehension.

Please see the attached worksheet. Look at the picture and discuss what you can see and what is happening before you start answering the questions.

Maths

Warm up –

Count forwards and backwards 0-100. Count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Quick recall of number bonds to 10 – You could either do this verbally or by using the online games hit the button or daily ten.

If you are struggling with any of these warm up activities, you should ensure you focus on them alongside the provided activities.

Main Activity –

Today you will be focusing on number doubles.

Here is the link to a double numbers song – A lot of the children will be familiar with this song as we often use it in school. Remember to sing along!

Your activity for today is to investigate number doubles.

Parents – Try to make this activity as practical as possible. Let the children use objects to calculate and prove number doubles. You could do this activity indoors or outdoors.

If you would prefer to do this as a written activity we have attached a sheet for you to use. Use whichever method you prefer 😊

Here is a game for you to play online after your activity (select number 1. Number doubles)  - https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/306/Maths-Fishing-Multiplication

Science

As we always do Science on a Thursday, we have set you a science activity to do at home today. At school we had only just started our science topic on plants. We have been looking at the different parts of a plant (roots, stem, flower, leaves) and the job that each of these parts do.

Before you start your science activity, why not impress your mum or dad by telling them everything that you already know about plants.

Your activity for today is to go for a walk around your garden. What plants and flowers can you see? Can you name them? Count how many of each flower there are. Then draw a picture of each flower you can see, name them and label the different parts. Enjoy the fresh air!

Music

Mr Griffith has put a link to the Jack and the Beanstalk songs you have been learning in music.

Why not have a sing-a-long to some of them and perform them to members of your family ?

Have a lovely day!

Miss C, Mrs P and Mrs C.
