Good Morning Year 2!
Here are your activities for today …
Today you will be adding the -er and -est suffix to adjectives.
What is a suffix? What is an adjective?
We use the -er and -est suffixes to make comparisons. -er allows us to compare 2 things and -est allows us to compare more than 2 things. You have already looked at the rules in school so this activity should act as a reminder.
Can you remember what we must do if the adjective ends in a y before adding -er / -est (e.g. happy)? We change the y for and i and then add -er / -est (happier / happiest).
Can you remember what we must do if the adjective ends in a e before adding -er / -est (e.g.cute)? We drop the e and add -er / -est (cuter / cutest).
Using these rules please complete the attached worksheet.
For the next few days your writing activities will be focused on a short video called ‘Catch It’. I have attached the link for the video below.
Please do not watch all of the video at once. Today please just watch up to 1:45 and stop the video.
Discuss what has happened in the video so far, what characters are involved, what the characters are like, where it is set and predictions for what might happen next. When we are in school we would generally watch this section of the video a few times and pause it at different points to have a good discussion about what has happened.
Over the next few days you will be writing a retell of the story from the meerkats point of view. You will be writing your very own ‘Catch It’ book. First you will need to make yourself a little booklet to write in. You will be asked to design the front cover and blurb later in the week so don’t worry about that yet.
Today I would like you to write the first section of your story (there will be 3 sections in total). Remember to think carefully about your punctuation and use lots of interesting adjectives. Also, draw some pictures to match what you have written. Most importantly, remember to check what you have written and edit your writing accordingly.
Complete the next slide on the daily warm up PowerPoint.
Your next focus in maths will be on multiplication. For this topic you will be following a series of videos from the website link below. Most days I will direct you to a video, a worksheet practicing the skills mentioned in the video and also a challenge activity to take your learning a step further.
Today once you have clicked on the link, select Summer Term – Week 5 (w/c 18th May) > Lesson 1 – Multiplication sentences using the x symbol. Watch the video and pause it at different points to work out the answer before it is given to you. Then complete the attached worksheets.
On this website there are plenty of videos that you can watch if you’re wanting to do a little bit extra. Please don’t jump ahead of me to week 5 and 6 as I will be setting this as your work over the next few days but you are welcome to jump back to the previous weeks if you want.
