Good Morning Year 1,
Here are your activities for today …
Daily recap of ‘phonics flashcards speed trial’ and ‘tricky word trucks’ on the Phonics Play website.
Write each letter of the alphabet on small pieces of paper. Ask somebody to hide the letters around your garden / house. Then find them as quickly as you can and put the letters in the correct order.
Go through the ‘ed’ suffix PowerPoint. Remember to complete the activity given on the last slide (add -ed to the verbs and then write a sentence).
Today you will be thinking about the conjunction ‘because’. Practice writing ‘because’ correctly.
Then complete the worksheet by adding ‘because’ to each sentence.
Count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Complete the subtraction warm up activity.
You have now done lots of work on making arrays and recognising the repeated addition that matches each array. Now you will be begin thinking about the multiplication sums that go with arrays. Do you know what the multiplication symbol looks like?
It is helpful to think of the multiplication symbol as ‘lots of’.
See the example below …
Repeated addition: 10+10+10+10 = 40
Multiplication: 4 x 10 = 40
4 lots of 10 = 40
First I would like you to make the following arrays using counters/small objects. Once you have made each array can you think of the repeated addition and multiplication that would match?
4 columns, 2 rows
5 columns, 3 rows
3 columns, 10 rows
5 columns, 5 rows
Now look at the worksheet and cut up the cards. You will need to make 3 piles (arrays, multiplication, repeated addition). Can you match up each of the cards?
