a Pathway to Success

Good morning Reception, happy Wednesday!  Did you manage to find and decorate a box?  If not don’t worry, you could try and do that today.  Next is the decorating time.  Have you got any green paper or scraps of green fabric?  If not use your crayons/felt tips/paint to colour in strips of paper green.  You can then attach these to the inside of your box to create seaweed/sea plants for the fish to swim in between.  Try using different shades of green if you can as this will create a more 3D effect.


Phonics:  Please go through your phoneme flashcards and your reading words-did you have many that you had forgotten?


Spelling:  Have you found some activities that you really enjoy?  Revise your 5 spellings that you chose last week using either one of the activities that you enjoyed or try a different one.  If you feel confident with these spellings either revise some old ones or pick a new set.


Mrs Balmer’s/Miss Hathaway’s/ Mrs Carr’s/Mrs Brennan’s:

Play ‘Make a Match’- choose Phase 3 week 6 to revise some of the trickier phonemes. 

I realised that I did not cover all of the ‘adjacent consonants’ (‘blends’) with Mrs Carrs/Mrs Brennan’s grp before the holidays!  I’m so sorry.  Today we will all look at ‘sm’ for ‘smile’ and ‘sn’ for ‘sniff'.   Have attached some track games for you to play which some of you will have seen before.  Please print out and play game 5 for sm/sn/sk/sc/pr to have a try at reading words with these initial ‘adjacent consonants’.  If you are confident with these you could listen to the alphabet song in the link below but have a try at the alphabet word ordering activity-it’s tricky!  You will need to pause the song and discuss.  Have fun dancing!


Alternative Phase 3 activity:



This song goes through the alphabet letter names, don’t worry about the putting the words in alphabetical order activity as this is a little to tricky for us yet but I thought that the song would be fun to dance a long to!    You could then play alphabet letter name snap with the letter names that you have learnt so far and three that you find tricky.  You will need two of each letter.



Mrs Balmer’s/Miss Hathaway’s:  Please continue with the addition sheets within 20 that I gave you yesterday which range in small numbers to larger numbers.  Again, it’s up to you how many you complete.


Mrs Carr’s/Mrs Brennan’s:  Did you enjoy the rainbow sheet yesterday?  Today we are on number bonds to 8.  Octopus’ have 8 tentacles, so I thought that you could draw/paint an octopus today and put the numbers 1-8 on it’s tentacles and 0 can be it’s head.  Use the tentacles to work out all of the bonds to 8 and then the inverse take away calculations.  You could colour the odd number tentacles one colour and the even number tentacles a different colour.  Do you notice a pattern with the odds and evens?
