Governor Pen Portraits

Gloria Cross

I have worked at Greenmount Primary School since 2001 and been a Governor since 2010.

My role as Business Manager sitting on the Board of Governors has allowed me to use my expertise in finance and human resources to contribute to the planning and direction of the school.

Catrina Dyer

Our little girl, started in Reception at Greenmount Primary this year. We have enjoyed becoming part of such a welcoming and nurturing school community. We also have a little boy, who is 2 years old and I will therefore be a Greenmount Primary parent for many years to come and have an interest in the school's continued success.

I have worked in the NHS as a paediatric speech and language therapist for the last 13 years. I have worked in lots of different schools and enjoy collaborating with teaching staff and parents to support children with speech, language and communication needs. As an NHS employee, I have a good knowledge of national guidelines relating to working with children such as safeguarding procedures, confidentiality and special needs reforms. I think being a Governor allows me to see the support provided to children from a different perspective and also the wider challenges that a school faces.

David Griffith

I was appointed as Head Teacher of Greenmount Primary School in September 2012, previously being the head at nearby Summerseat Methodist Primary School. I began my teaching career in Warrington in 1997.

I feel honoured to be the head of such a special school where governors, staff, parents and children work together for the good of all our pupils.

As a governor, I work alongside colleagues to set the long term vision for the school and appreciate the contributions made by all. One of the governors' roles is to hold the head teacher to account which our governing body does effectively, supportively and respectfully.

Angie Hobson

My name is Angela Hobson (Angie) and I am mum to a child currently in Year 1 and also have a daughter who is starting reception at Greenmount this September; and as such I have a keen interest in the continued provision of high standards at Greenmount Primary.

As well as a mummy I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse, with over 18 years’ experience. Prior to having my first child, I worked as a Hospital Director, and have worked with both adults and children. Since having my children, I now work part time as a Mental Health Services Manager and work across services in England providing support and direction to hospital management teams who are encountering difficulties, in order to ensure improvements are made and standards of care are high.

Throughout my career I have continued to see first-hand the impact that mental health issues can have not only on the individuals' who are poorly, but also their families, including children, and I also see the difference a supportive and forward-thinking school can make to these children. We all know there are things in life that test our mental strength, such as bereavement or illness of a family member, and at these times the support a school can offer to children and in turn parents, can have a significant and long-term impact.

I have a keen interest in supporting young people to develop healthy habits and to understand that our mental health is as important as our physical health and as such am pleased as both a parent and member of the local community that Greenmount Primary strives to help children develop into kind, caring and resilient young people and that in the midst of a pandemic the current teaching staff, school leaders and governing body have acknowledged that our children’s mental health is important.

Roger Holt

As a Greenmount resident for 33 years, I have been a Community Governor since I retired in 2011. On becoming a governor, I wanted to use the experience and skills I had gained over a long career in education to support schools in the local community.

My main interests are teaching and learning, along with leadership and management, and hope to use my experience to help create the best possible learning opportunities for the children at Greenmount Primary School. I have two children, who both attended Greenmount Primary, and two grandsons, one of whom is currently a pupil at the school.

Away from school I enjoy cycling and walking and work as a volunteer with the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Bob Judge

I became a Co-opted Governor for the school in 2017.

I retired in 2010 and my wife and I moved from down South to live in Greenmount. I now only do voluntary work, with my main role being Treasurer of the Greenmount Village Community and the organiser of the annual Greenmount Village Party. I am both a qualified Chartered Accountant and a CIMA Chartered Management Accountant. I also have a degree and am a qualified Project Manager. With extensive business experiences in both finance and managed services in both the Private and Public Sectors, I believe I am well placed to provide sound business advice.

We have 2 sons, 1 of whom lives in Prestwich and we also have a grandson who attends another local primary school in Bury.

Brent-James Pinder

I'm in my second term as the Local Authority governor and was nominated by Bury Council.

Away from Greenmount Primary, I work as Front of House at a performing arts venue and have media production company. I have had strong involvement with youth provisions across Bury and representing our borough's young people locally, regionally and nationally. I have experience of Bury’s third sector, especially in the promotion of equality and diversity, which is a big issue close to my heart as a member of Bury’s BAME community. I have no tolerance for any attempt to treat people less favourably because of their protected characteristics and these beliefs assist me in any work I do including as a governor.

During my own school years, I struggled to come to terms with my Disabilities (SEND), which at times left me feeling ostracised with no support within school and now as a parent I have two children at GPS who have SEND and I feel it is my duty to ensure the school is flexible and supports every child’s personal needs no matter how significant they are.

Greenmount Primary School always goes above and beyond to support our pupils reach and outperform their targets, this is despite financial constraints placed on the school, which only champions the school's committed staff on overcoming obstacles to serve the children.
