Practical Information

Appointments in School

Occasionally children will need to visit the doctor, dentist, optician etc. If at all possible please make appointments outside of the school day. If a child returns to school after 9.15 a.m. in the morning or after 1.45 p.m. in the afternoon we are obliged to give a late mark. However if a child comes into school first and then taken out to the appointment this does not attract a late mark.

If you find that you do need to remove your child for a medical appointment please let us know by telephone or email at least 24 hours in advance if possible. Please do not use the Class Dojo messaging service to inform us of appointments.

You will need to collect your child by calling into the school office and we will collect your child from class.

Complaints

Occasionally, difficulties do arise. We hope to resolve any problems amicably and informally. If the problem is a class based one please see your child’s class teacher. If however, it is one that is school based or you have not been satisfied with the outcome following your appointment with your child’s class teacher then please arrange to see Mr Griffith or Miss Kunce and we will do the best that we can to rectify any problem.

Should it be the case that we are unable to resolve the problem to your satisfaction our complaints procedure requires that you put your complaint in writing and forward it to the Chair of Governors who will respond to your complaint in a timely manner.

Our Complaints policy is available on the Policies page.

Donations

There are two donation systems operating in school.

One is a Parent Teacher Association system of supporting PTA funds, which in turn provide for many additional resources for our school which government funding struggles to provide. You will receive information about this method of supporting school from the PTA at intervals during the year.

The other system of donations is for school visits arranged by your child’s class teacher. These visits are predominantly used to support and stimulate children’s learning in the school curriculum. The vast majority of parents agree that such visits are desirable to enrich children’s educational experience. School visit donations are calculated at the precise cost of the visit shared out to the number of children, less any subsidy.

We are keen that all children are able to take part in school visits without discrimination. If parents are genuinely unable to make a full donation please make us aware and we are able to access contingency funds allocated for this purpose. All information given will be treated with the strictest confidence. (Please speak to Mr Griffith or Miss Kunce).

Additionally, we also run a number of fund-raising events over the course of the year to support different charities - watch the newsletter for more information.

A copy of our Charging Policy is available on the Policies page.

Severe Weather / School Closure

We do not make the decision to close school lightly and will always do what we can to remain open.

There may be occasions, due to bad weather or epidemics etc, when the school has to be closed.

We use the text messaging service to inform parents and also post messages on the school website.

Please let the school office staff know of any changes to your contact details or fill in the online form.

Transport to School

Children can walk to school or if parents wish they can also scoot or bike to school. We have a bicycle rack at the front of school. However, parents will need to provide security chains.

We would always encourage walking, scooting or cycling. However, if parents do need to drive, please take extra special care and follow our advice regarding parking.

Car Park

The car park is purely for members of staff and visitors use.

Special permission will sometimes be granted to parents/carers in exceptional circumstances. Please contact the Head Teacher.

Please do not park on Holhouse Lane. This causes an obstruction to emergency vehicles. When parking on nearby roads, please observe the highway code and park considerately.

We encourage walking or cycling to school whenever possible.
