Activities and Enrichment
Extra-Curricular Activities
During the year there is a wide variety of extra – curricular activity, some during the day and some out of school hours. Below is just a taster of the range of activities but please watch out for letters from staff giving information about an activity opportunity for your child or for information in newsletters.
Most activities are for junior aged children - primarily because young children are tired by the end of the school day and many want to see mum or dad for a while. However, we are attempting to increase the range of activities available for infant children. Our intention is to try to provide an activity to include the interests for all of the children. We have been able to provide the following in the past:
- Media Club
- Netball
- Photography Club
- Chess
- Football
- Gymnastics
- Dance
- Film Club
- Choir
- Art club
More information can be found on our Clubs page:
In addition to the above we also facilitate instrumental sessions provided by the Bury Music Service.
Please ask at the school office for a brochure detailing what is on offer and the costs.
Educational Visits
To enhance the curriculum we offer an increasing number of trips over the course of the year.
These are normally linked to class topics and have the aim of increasing children’s understanding of particular topics or developing new or existing skills.
In the infants we aim for at least two trips each year and for the juniors, three trips a year.
In Year 6, the children are invited to take part in a week long residential trip. This normally occurs in the Summer term and offers the children opportunities to take part in “outdoor and adventurous” activities such as climbing, abseiling etc.
We also offer a shorter residential trip for our Year 4 children, usually in the Autumn term.
Such trips do depend on parental contributions.
Events in Schools
During the year there are many events going on. They are very nearly all advertised well in advance in the school newsletter and through an annual “Diary Dates” leaflet which is distributed in September (link at the bottom of the page).
Events include the following but of course they may vary year to year:
- Workshops for Reception parents in Reading, Writing and Numeracy (September / October)
- Harvest Festival (early October)
- Parents Target Setting Interviews (October)
- PTA Christmas Fair
- Christmas Performances (December) for Infants
- Christmas Musical Afternoon
- Pupil Progress Parent Interviews (February)
- Y3/4 Performance
- Greenmount’s Got Talent
- PTA Summer Fair
- Y5/6 Performance
- Sports Days (infants and juniors)
We are always seeking to increase the variety and number of events. Suggestions can be made to your class PTA rep or to Mr Griffith.
Instrumental Tuition
Instrumental tuition is available via Bury Music Service for a variety of instruments e.g. Guitar, flute, violin, clarinet, brass. We are unable to support piano lessons unfortunately. A charge is made for the tuition provided by the Bury Music Service and lessons are taken during the school day.
If you would like more information please visit the Bury Music Service website.
Library
The school library is available for all children to borrow from. The library is well stocked but we are currently working to renew out of date material. The library is well managed by Year 6 Librarians and one of our teaching assistants. Library books offer an opportunity for children to make their own choice of reading material.
Reception and Year 1 have a weekly “library slot” when children can change their books.
The library is also open at morning playtimes for children in Year 2 to Year 6.
