Following on from Years 3 and 4, where the children have developed their understanding of early civilisations in the UK and explored both human and physical characteristic of Europe, in year 5 the children will begin to broaden and deepen their understanding of historical and geographical features of countries across the continents.
Specifically, they will concentrate on Africa. In particular – Egypt. Beginning with the geographical features of Egypt and the importance of the Nile, the children will look at the land features which had an impact on the Egyptian way of life.
The children will note connections, contrasts and trends over time and be able to analyse and interpret how the Egyptian civilisation was constructed.
